Trulli was robbed. Hamilton must revel in Lewismania.
Like many, I've been keenly awaiting the start of the 2009 Formula One season. I watched the live practive, I got up early to watch the qualifying and even got up extra early to watch the race. 5am!
It was all worth it! A simply amazing race, lots and lots of action. Something I have to take my hat off to the Bernie, those rule changes look to have achieved exactly what he wanted. More overtaking, more action, more racing!
So it was with great sadness that I learn that the beurocratic teams have chosen to ruin this heart-warming start to the season by contesting Trullis third place. Trulli performed amazingly throughout the race and was able to snap up the third place after Vettel and Kubica had their rather nasty off, getting him a podium finish! Well done Trulli! Well, not quite. It seems that while completing the race under the yellow flag, Trulli has a small off himself; a result of the agressive tyre warming techniques the drivers have to perform while following the safety car. He rejoined the track and resumed his place behind Rubens Barachello, requiring him to overtake Lewis Hamilton, who had "no choice" but to overtake Trulli when he came off. Yeah, sure Lewis! There are rules about overtaking under the yellow flag, you just can't do it.
But it seems it's OK for Lewis to overtake Trulli, but not OK for Trulli to retake the place he had earned! After the presentation of the trophies it seems that MacLaren, not happy with contesting the car designs of their rival teams, will stop at nothing to get their man onto the podium: they complained about Trulli's overtaking maneuver and this was sustained, meaning that Trulli was handed a 25 second penaly to demoted to 12th place.
OK, I can see the logic, but why the hell wasn't Lewis given a penalty too? He could see the guy had an off, so why didn't he stop? I guess even he knows the power of Lewis Mania.
Well, I hope he and MacLaren are happy with their stolen trophy.
